BaFin published the draft guideline for supervisory assessment related to a bank's risk-bearing capacity. The interested market participants can submit comments by October 17, 2017.

A bank’s internal procedures for ensuring risk-bearing capacity are of great importance for the banking industry. Supervision has also paid great attention to this issue, which is reflected in the relevant regulations and requirements of the Banking Act (KWG) and the minimum requirements for banks' risk management (MaRisk) and the currently applicable supervisory guide for the supervisory assessment of a bank's risk-bearing capacity concepts published in 2011. BaFin and Deutsche Bundesbank have now revised these guidelines. With the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) and the associated new tasks and competencies of ECB as well as the guidelines for the Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process (SREP) of EBA, significant changes have taken place since the publication of the previously applicable risk-bearing capacity guidelines in the European supervisory structure and practices.
