BoE Updates XBRL Filing Manual for Reporting Under Solvency II

    December 09, 2019

BoE has updated the XBRL filing manual (to Version 5.0) to help firms and software vendors create XBRL instance documents for Solvency II Pillar 3 and BoE Insurance reporting. The key updates include Section 1 on introduction, Section 9 on entry points for EIOPA Solvency II Taxonomy, Section 10 on entry points for Bank of England Insurance Taxonomy, and removal of information repeated from the EIOPA Solvency II XBRL filing manual.

There is a large degree of flexibility in the XBRL reporting standard and certain decisions have been taken to remove any ambiguity and uncertainty between firms and BoE (and ultimately EIOPA). The aim of the document is to:

    • Define filing rules that limit the flexibility of XBRL in construction of XBRL instance documents (in addition to rules defined in the XBRL specifications and EIOPA Solvency II XBRL taxonomy and BoE Insurance taxonomy)
    • Provide additional guidelines related to the filing of data in general or in specific cases
    • Provide guidance on common issues found with generating XBRL instance documents and how to resolve them
